I bought this old, HUGE picture and frame at an Estate sale this week for a dollar. I meant to get a picture of it before I painted over the canvas, but I forgot, oops! Here it is, exactly as it came, minus the coat of off-white paint. I wasted no time painting over the hideous picture.
After covering the painting with some paint, I enlisted the help of my daughter. I gave her a paintbrush and some paint and had her brush the frame with the paint. We didn't want to completely cover it. I hoped for some of that tarnished, gold color to show through here and there.
My daughter was VERY concerned that we weren't covering the frame with enough white paint, but she did just fine y'all. So good in fact that when it was all said and done, and the white paint was dry, I didn't do a thing more to it.
From there I laid out four doilies on the canvas and arranged them how I liked. Then we used Modge Podge Matte and painted each one, one at a time, and placed them on the canvas. I then took some old buttons, pearls, beads, and a cross I had picked up at Dollar Tree and began laying them out on the canvas. I just kind of went with what I thought looked good. When I got a good layout, I started hot gluing the things on. I highly recommend if you're crafting and doing a lot of hot gluing to get and use this Hot Glue Gun.
It's a game changer to not have to be connected to the wall with your glue gun. Amazon has a great price on this too. I've never seen the cordless ones at Walmart, but some of the craft stores may have them. I always order most everything from Amazon.
Here is a shot of it as I was starting to get everything laid out and beginning to glue. I ran out of glue sticks and had to run to walmart and pick up some more. I thought for sure I had more, but I couldn't find them, so I made a quick store run, but when I got home you'd better believe I put some of THESE in my cart on Amazon!
I added a burlap bow to the upper right-hand corner. secured with the same hot glue. It all pullled together quite nice in the end, and I'm thrilled to have this piece currently hanging on my living room wall. <3 I love it so much, I may make something similar for my main bathroom as I've been looking for a few pieces for a space on one of the walls in there. This is approximately 24"x24", so it's a very big piece. I think I'm going to add a small shelf under it with some little things on the shelf.
I am so very excited about this piece of art I created today. I have about four dollars tied up in it, plus stuff I already had. It only took me about an hour and a half of work to create this, which I felt was very reasonable considering there was a creative process involved. This was simply from my mind, and not copied from anyone else.
I sure hope you enjoyed it, and thanks for stopping by the blog. What have you created lately? Share it with me! I'd love to see! XOXO Jen
