My husband and I went to the DAYTONA 500 yesterday and we had a good day. When I got back to my blog today I was a little discouraged because I didn't have good service at the race, and because of that I didn't get my blog shared so hardly anyone saw it yesterday. What a discouragement. I work hard every day to get the things important to me accomplished, so when I fail, I'm no different than anyone else, it discourages me.
Listen, life is hard y'all, and if you're a wife, a mom or just a human being, you know that emphatically. Sometimes we're just all doing the best we can do to make it through the day. I feel ya. I've been there, so, so many times. Some days don't feel like successes, but complete and total failures, and that's discouraging, but God doesn't want it that way for us. Joshua 1:9 tells us "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." The Bible also tells us "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." Galatians 6:9. There are so many things the bible says about not giving up, staying the course, and getting back up again when we fall. I'm here to encourage you today and say, girl, get back up; you can do it!
My daughter Joely was in gymnastics her whole childhood off and on. She was very talented, but honestly, we never had the money to keep her in lessons consistently. Finally, when she was older, the man who owned the gym she went to recognized her potential and offered her free lessons if she'd stay, and so she did. I watched this very talented young girl become discouraged as she worked hard to accomplish what some of the others were doing. The difference was the girls doing those amazing flips had been consistently in gymnastics, without breaks for, in some cases, years. Joely didn't give up though, and soon, with consistency, she reached those goals. She was about to do araerial twists and such, and they were beautiful and she leaned them in a fraction of the time many of the other girls had taken to learn the same things. She was now being consistent, but more than that, every time she fell, she got back up and she tried again. Trust me when I tell you she fell a lot. Some days it really worried me as I sat there and watched her determination to do what seemed almost impossible, but she never gave up, and soon she was doing what I could only imagine doing. She amazed me, but the premise of this story isn't amazing, it's actually obvious. God tells us not to give up, why don't we listen?
We only really fail when we quit. I know you've heard this story: The famous story goes, Edison failed to refine the LIGHT BULB (one of the few creations he merely refined but did not invent) so many times it took him 10,000 attempts to perfect. However, rather than accepting failure 9,999 times he is quoted as answering questions on his failures as rather: 'I have not failed. I have just found 9,999 ways it did not work.'
Michael Jordan is another person who exemplifies never giving up. He is quoted as saying:
So I hope today you'll be encouraged to keep going. Whatever it is you're trying to be successful at, just keep going. If no one has ever encouraged you (doubtful) or if you just need some extra encouragement, here I am and I'm telling you, JUST KEEP SWIMMING! (a little FINDING NEMO reference) :) I know you can do it. Whatever you do, just don't stay down. Girl, get back up!!! Enough said.
I hope you have a wonderful Presidents' Day today and hope you're off spending time with your family. If not, I pray your workday goes quickly. Until tomorrow, enjoy your today!
