I don't know about y'all but I feel like I'm living in an episode of the Twilight Zone right now. Here I am making some crafts, doing some DIY's, feeding my chickens, watering my garden, baking some bread and all the while the world has gone mad. The NBA shut down, the NCAA shut down, schools are closed, Universities are closed, and something that, as a Floridian, I can tell you NEVER happens. Disney World has shut down. Even when Orlando gets hit head-on with a hurricane, Disney World never shuts down for more than a day. They're now officially closed until at least the end of the month. That's TWENTY DAYS people! TWENTY!!! I'm telling you, this is serious!
So, what the heck is going on? I'll tell you what's going on, there's a whole lot of people who don't trust Jesus. Now, having said that let me be clear. I fully know COVID-19, also known as the Coronavirus is a real thing, and it really can kill people, but I also know it has a much lower death rate than simple Influenza which hits our nation every year. Some years it hits harder than others, but people die every single year, and they die at a higher rate than COVID-19 is killing them. I'm not saying we shouldn't take it seriously, take precautions, and be smart, I'm just saying this is madness, and anyone who trusts the Lord cannot be falling for this madness.
Now, before you start yelling at me, know that I have a child with a compromised immune system and so this is serious to our household. I mean it's serious to everyone, but we know elderly, babies and toddlers and those with compromised immune systems are the most at risk to be affected. That means I don't take it lightly, but I also don't take the Lord God lightly. I know He's protecting me, and He has a mighty plan among all the craziness that's happening around me in the world right now.
I am drawn to Philippians 4:6-7 which tells us: "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." The panic that is happening is not of God, and I dare say it is of something dark inside this world. In Isaiah 41:10 it says: "Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."
You need not look any further than your very own Bible to find the peace and comfort that you desire during this time of panic in our nation and our world. God is with you, He is fighting for His people, and He will sustain you. Is this crisis real, well in part, yes. Should you take precautions and use common sense, of course. Is there a viable threat currently, unfortunately, yes there is, but none of that changes who God is and what He does. There's a reason the Bible says the peace of God surpasses all understanding, and it's because non-believers don't understand it. Sometimes believers don't even understand it, but we know we can trust it, and we can trust it.
Take heed friends, when there's panic in the streets, and when people rush about, buying up all the things, hiding in fear, and trembling, we serve a Mighty God who is in total control and for whom we can trust with our very lives. Proverbs 3:5 tells us: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your understanding." We do not fear, because God tells us that fear is not for us. “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7
If you're fearful today and you know Him, go to Him and ask for His peace. He will supply it in multitude to those who are His own. Grab hold of Jesus and don't let go. We're all going to get through this and come out better for the fact that we depended on Jesus for our every need. Though it's unfortunate, this isn't an episode of The Twilight Zone, and we can't just turn off the TV and make it go away, but we can get on our knees and take it to the Lord in prayer. I pray you're doing just that, and that you won't let the panic of others control you. Feelings lie to us every day, the word of God never will.
